Nice SA's lithium-powered DC Blue Astute garage motor targets load shedding with 90-minute charge
Nice SA's garage motor ships with lithium power built for load shedding: 48 hours standby, ~70 cycles per charge, and a 90-minute supercharger in place of 8-hour lead-acid charging.
Nice Group South Africa brought its DC Blue Astute garage door motor to the South African market in late 2024, SMART Security Solutions reported, replacing traditional lead-acid batteries with a pre-installed lithium-ion battery.
The motor is offered as a single model rated at 1,000 N - a deliberate choice to avoid confusion from multiple strength options.
The battery delivers 48 hours of standby or roughly 70 open-close cycles, and the door can be operated within 10 minutes of power being restored even after full depletion. An included high-speed "supercharger" fully charges the battery in about 90 minutes, versus roughly 8 hours for traditional chargers.
A battery management system provides low-voltage, over-voltage and short-circuit protection with temperature regulation.
The lighter design installs without extra lifting equipment and fits existing drawbars. Nice SA supports the product through seven branches with component-level repairs as the manufacturer. "Installers do not want to be forced to keep returning to their clients' premises," said Nice Group South Africa's Gerald Kirsten.
