Fidelity flagged Gauteng and KZN as flashpoints, put helicopters and APCs on standby for 30 June

Fidelity Services Group's business intelligence unit flagged KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng as the primary flashpoint provinces for the anti-illegal-immigration protests planned for 30 June 2026, TimesLIVE reported on 23 June.

Specific hotspots named by Fidelity included Sherwood, Umgeni, Kokstad and the Durban corridor in KZN, and Thembisa, Jeppestown and the City Deep market in Gauteng. Khayelitsha in the Western Cape was rated moderate risk.

Fidelity recommended concentrated security deployments across the Durban corridor, hourly situation reports from KwaZulu-Natal and contingency planning across Gauteng's key logistics routes. Per the company's own statement, it activated its National Joint Operations Centre and placed helicopter and drone pilots, specialised personnel and armoured personnel carriers on standby, coordinating with SAPS.

The company identified transport routes, town centres, business districts, municipal offices and foreign-owned businesses as the assets most at risk, warning of road blockages, staff movement delays and temporary business closures.

Defence Minister Angie Motshekga said SANDF troops would deploy only if SAPS requested assistance, with the military's priority being national key points. The protest deadline was set by anti-immigration activists including Jacinta Ngobese of March and March, with government distancing itself amid fears of a repeat of the 2021 unrest in which 354 people died.

"Our teams are on standby with comprehensive contingency plans in place to manage any potential incidents arising from the planned protest action," said Fidelity CEO Wahl Bartmann.
