Kimberley suburbs fund live-monitored camera networks amid surge in break-ins
Kirstenhof and Riviera residents installed dual-camera poles at suburb access points, monitored 24/7 with armed response dispatch - a community-funded model spreading beyond the metros.
Residents of the Kimberley suburbs Kirstenhof and Riviera have installed privately funded, live-monitored surveillance camera networks at key access points in response to a surge in break-ins, the Diamond Fields Advertiser reported in October 2025.
Each installation pole carries two cameras facing different directions, with footage monitored around the clock by Fidelity ADT's control centre and armed response officers dispatched when alerts are triggered.
The Riviera neighbourhood watch conducts night patrols in coordination with private security and police, instructing volunteers to report suspicious activity rather than confront suspects.
Security provider Top Security Systems has warned that nearly 90% of yard break-ins in the area went unreported to police, according to the DFA.
Residents told the paper that theft has dropped noticeably since the camera networks went live, though no official figures were provided.
