Acting police minister enlists private security as force multiplier ahead of 30 June demonstrations
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia met the private security industry ahead of the 30 June demonstrations, agreeing information sharing and joint planning with SAPS as key risk measures.
Acting Minister of Police Professor Firoz Cachalia met representatives of the private security industry on 24 June 2026, ahead of planned demonstrations on 30 June, the South African Government News Agency (SAnews) reported. Acting SAPS National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane attended the engagement.
The demonstrations were linked to a 30 June 2026 deadline relating to undocumented foreign nationals and immigration-related tensions.
Cachalia described the private security sector as a potential force multiplier for the South African Police Service during heightened security concerns. Enhanced information sharing, coordinated planning and the pooling of public- and private-sector resources were agreed as key measures to manage security risks over the period.
Industry representatives pledged support to ensure demonstrations take place in a safe and lawful environment, and confirmed preparations had already commenced. Cachalia said all stakeholders had a responsibility to help ensure the country remained stable, peaceful and safe.
"Today's engagement reaffirmed our collective commitment to proactive planning, intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and joint responses," Dimpane said.
