NBCPSS levy rises to R9.40 per security employee from 1 March 2026 - first increase in six years
Category 1 employees now attract a R9.40 monthly council levy (Category 2: R2.50), effective 1 March 2026. Schedules and payments remain due by the 7th of each month via the Umhlaba portal.
The National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector issued a reminder circular on 30 January 2026 confirming that levy contributions increase with effect from 1 March 2026 - the first levy increase in six years, according to the council.
Category 1 employees (PSiRA-registered and graded security officers, and employees covered by the Main Collective Agreement) contribute R9.40 per employee. Category 2 employees (in-scope employees who are not PSiRA-registered) contribute R2.50 per employee.
The increase was first communicated in a circular dated 11 December 2025, and applies to all employers falling within the NBCPSS scope across both categories.
Levy schedules and payments are due by the 7th of each month, submitted via the Umhlaba Risk Solutions online portal.
Security employers should confirm their payroll systems reflect the new levy amounts on all returns from March 2026 onward.
